Description

The Open Rules Program Internship provides students and recent graduates with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in government rulemaking and policy development. Interns will work closely with state agencies, legal teams, and policymakers to assist in reviewing, analyzing, and updating administrative rules that govern Idaho. This internship is designed for individuals interested in public administration, law, political science, or regulatory affairs.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in researching and analyzing existing state regulations.
  • Review proposed rule changes and their potential impact on Idaho citizens and businesses.
  • Support government officials in drafting and editing regulatory documents.
  • Attend public hearings, stakeholder meetings, and legislative sessions as needed.
  • Prepare reports, summaries, and presentations on policy and regulatory matters.
  • Communicate with state agencies, legal teams, and the public regarding rule changes.
  • Perform administrative tasks related to the Open Rules Program.

Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an accredited college or university.
  • Majoring in Political Science, Public Administration, Law, Business, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in government processes, regulatory affairs, and public policy.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or authorized to work in the United States.
Experience
  • Prior internship or work experience in government, law, or policy analysis is a plus.
  • Experience conducting research and writing reports preferred.
  • Exposure to legislative or administrative rulemaking processes is beneficial but not required.
Skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional setting.
