Description
The Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) Internship Program offers an exceptional opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to gain valuable experience in the federal government and contribute to the mission of serving Tribal communities. Interns will work alongside BIA professionals on various projects, gaining firsthand knowledge about tribal sovereignty, self-determination, and trust responsibility.
Responsibilities
- Assist with research, analysis, and data collection on issues relevant to Tribal communities.
- Support program and project management tasks related to tribal affairs.
- Draft correspondence, reports, and presentations.
- Participate in outreach and engagement activities with Tribal governments.
- Attend professional development workshops and conferences (optional).
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) preferred.
- Demonstrated interest in American Indian and Alaska Native affairs, tribal sovereignty, or related fields.
- Strong research, writing, and communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Respectful and culturally sensitive approach to working with Tribal communities.
Experience
- Prior internship or volunteer experience in government agencies or Tribal organizations is a plus.
