Description
The Florida Department of Corrections (FDOC) is pleased to offer internship opportunities for motivated individuals interested in gaining practical experience in the field of corrections in 2024. As an intern, you will have the chance to work closely with experienced professionals in various aspects of correctional operations, rehabilitation, and community reintegration. Responsibilities
- Assist in the implementation of programs and services designed to facilitate the rehabilitation and reintegration of incarcerated individuals.
- Conduct research and analysis on best practices in corrections, including inmate education, vocational training, and substance abuse treatment.
- Support case management activities, including inmate assessments, classification reviews, and reentry planning.
- Participate in facility inspections, audits, and evaluations to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Collaborate with FDOC staff and community partners on special projects and initiatives aimed at improving outcomes for justice-involved individuals.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a degree program related to criminal justice, criminology, social work, psychology, or a related field.
- Must have completed at least two years of undergraduate coursework by the start of the internship.
Experience
- Previous experience or coursework in criminal justice, corrections, or related fields is preferred but not required.
- Experience working with diverse populations, including justice-involved individuals, is beneficial.
- Familiarity with research methods and data analysis techniques is a plus.
Skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with inmates, staff, and community stakeholders.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other relevant software applications.
